A power purchase agreement (PPA) locks in the price a buyer will pay for power from a specific wind or solar project, often for 10–20 years. Right now, a shrinking pipeline of buildable land-based wind projects is letting developers charge a premium, even as solar keeps getting cheaper to build.
Wind PPA prices climbed 17.5% year-over-year, while solar prices actually dipped 4.8% quarter-over-quarter — the first solar price decline in two years. Fewer viable wind projects means more competition for the ones that are left, as demand for clean power keeps climbing.
