Turbines felled by explosives, Aug. 2026

Chevron built the farm in 2009 under a PacifiCorp (Rocky Mountain Power) contract, then elected not to renew it in 2018. Output stopped entirely in December 2023.

In 2024, Chevron tried registering the farm in the West’s real-time Energy Imbalance Market — a workaround needing no long-term buyer — but PacifiCorp rejected it over an unresolved “telemetry issue” neither side ever explained. Chevron gave up: 4 of 11 turbines were sold intact for reuse elsewhere; the rest came down on-site by explosives and crane.
